Been running Cat 777A trucks on and off for years. This one puts out 870 hp from that D348 V12 - you feel the power when the box is loaded. Payload is 85 tons and the dual-slope dump box with wrap‑around ribs means the body takes a beating and keeps going. Frame is heavy duty, extra plates and castings in the stress spots; I’ve seen old 777As still working after decades. Cab is basic but gives a clear view and has rollover protection. Transmission is planetary power-shift with a lockup torque converter and a downshift inhibitor - shifts are firm but predictable; retarder and emergency brake levers are easy to reach. Downsides: it’s old tech so maintenance needs hands-on work, turbo and big hydraulics aren’t cheap to strip down. Fuel tank is big (250 gal) so range is good. Mixed feelings - reliable and built like a tank, but you pay for upkeep and it’s not comfy for long shifts.

I’ve used the updated 777 model for some heavy-duty projects. It's fuel-efficient, definitely noticeable when managing tight budgets. The payload tracking system aids in monitoring its performance effectively. However, the technology setup felt slightly intricate at first but became intuitive over time.

Had the chance to operate one a few occasions. The design is tough, typical for older Caterpillars. The independent oil pneumatic suspension provides a decent ride. However, the braking system, while functional, felt aged. And the 37 mph top speed isn't breaking any records.
